Laboratory Services
For many years, our office sent most blood samples to a diagnostic lab. Simply put, we didn’t want to “feed the blood machine.” That is, we didn’t want the easy availability of technology to make us want to use it unnecessarily.
Questions of ethics are taken very seriously. Nonetheless, our blood analyzers have become valuable tools—quick, accurate, and cost-effective. Our diagnostic lab can pick up samples daily, as needed, with overnight results available in many cases.
We can perform blood tests such as CBCs (Complete Blood Counts), chemistries, thyroid levels, electrolytes, heartworm and tick-borne disease testing, and feline leukemia and FIV. All tests are done in-house, within 30 minutes or less while you wait. We have a marvelous A.I. urinanalysis machine that takes 100s of microscopic slide and provides instant images. As a result we can see the results of urine testing at a granular level observing the presence of bacteria, crystals, red and white blood cells in the urine in order to make a quick and accurate diagnosis rather than guessing and potentially treating inappropriately. In many ways this machine is a game changer.
Radiology Services
X-rays are usually performed with sedation and are developed soon after the images are taken. Occasionally, films are sent for a second opinion by a board-certified veterinary radiologist, as not all interpretations are black and white. Our X-ray machine is a recently purchased digital equipment utilizing the most recent imaging technology.
